Quantum Of Solace

ESO Hotel at Cerro Paranal (or Residencia) is the accommodation for Paranal Observatory in Chile since 2002.[1] It is mainly used for the ESO (European Southern Observatory) scientists and engineers who work there on a roster system. It has been called a 'boarding house on Mars', because the desert surroundings are Mars-like,[2] and an 'Oasis for astronomers'.[3] It is not a commercial hotel, and the public cannot book rooms.[4]

Quantum of Solace is the title of a story published in For Your Eyes Only in which James Bond plays a very small part. Bond is attending a dinner party hosted by the Governor for The Bahamas at the end of a week in Nassau before leaving for Miami, in which he feels completely out of place. Quantum of Solace is one of the strangest James Bond titles and the film doesn't explain it, but it has a deeper significance derived from the themes found in the original short story by 007's creator, Ian Fleming. Directed by Marc Forster, Quantum of Solace was released in 2008 and it was Daniel Craig's second outing as James Bond. Nov 14, 2008 Quantum of Solace has style, and enough pursuit and pyrotechnics to please hard-core Bond fans. But it may disappoint those hoping for Marc Forster's distinctive imprint and a return to Casino. Quantum of Solace is the twenty-second film in the James Bond series produced by EON Productions. The sequel's storyline was created by producer Michael G. Wilson while 2006's Casino Royale was shooting. Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade returned as writers.

The architect was Hernán Marchant, a current Professor and Associate Dean at North Carolina State University and the constructor was Vial y Vives Ltda. of Chile.[1] It won the Cityscape Architectural Review Awards in 2005.[4] In 2004 it won the new and overall Leaf-Awards.[4]

Location[edit]

The hotel is located at 2,400 meters (7,900 ft) above sea level on Cerro Paranal. The people there work in extreme climatic conditions including intense sunlight, dryness, high wind speeds and great fluctuations in temperature. To protect against these an artificial oasis was built to allow respite between shifts.

The total area is 10 000 m², with an L-shape of 176 m x 53 m. It has 4 levels, 1,000 m² of gardens, 108 rooms, and 18 offices.[1] It includes a restaurant, music room, library, swimming pool, and sauna.[1] Its inauguration was in February 2002.[1]

The hotel complex, comprising four levels, fits into an existing depression in the ground. There are views across the desert to the Pacific Ocean from each of the 120 rooms and also from the dining room veranda. Also visible is a slightly raised dome comprising a steel skeleton that measures 35 meters (115 ft) in diameter.

The hotel's exterior was featured in the 2008 Bond film Quantum of Solace,[4] in which the structure was depicted as a fictional eco-hotel in Bolivia. A miniature of the hotel was built by the visual effects team for the shots where the hotel is destroyed.

'Quantum of Solace' has the worst title in the series save for 'Never Say Never Again,' words that could have been used by Kent after King Lear utters the saddest line in all of Shakespeare: 'Never! Never! Never! Never! Never!' The movie opens with Bond involved in a reckless car chase on the tollway that leads through mountain tunnels from Nice through Monte Carlo and down to Portofino in Italy, where Edward Lear lies at rest with his cat, Old Foss. I have driven that way many a time. It is a breathtaking drive.

Quantum Of Solace Actress

You won't find that out here. The chase, with Bond under constant machinegun fire, is so quickly cut and so obviously composed of incomprehensible CGI that we're essentially looking at bright colors bouncing off each other, intercut with Bond at the wheel and POV shots of approaching monster trucks. Let's all think together. When has an action hero ever, even once, been killed by machinegun fire, no matter how many hundreds of rounds? The hit men should simply reject them and say, 'No can do, Boss. They never work in this kind of movie.'

The chase has no connection to the rest of plot, which is routine for Bond, but it's about the movie's last bow to tradition. In 'Quantum of Solace' he will share no cozy quality time with the Bond girl (Olga Kurylenko). We fondly remember the immortal names of Pussy Galore, Xenia Onatopp and Plenty O'Toole, who I have always suspected was a drag queen. In this film, who do we get? Are you ready for this? Camille. That's it. Camille. Not even Camille Squeal. Or Cammy Miami. Or Miss O'Toole's friend Cam Shaft.
